Editor's Comments: - FMU is a school which mainly serves the metropolitan areas in the state of Florida. Florida Metropolitan University (FMU) is a private university operating ten campuses in Florida. These campuses were organized as FMU in 1995. FMU’s Tampa area campuses are located in Brandon, Tampa, Lakeland, and Clearwater (Pinellas). Two FMU campuses are located in Orlando and one in Melbourne. FMU also operates single campuses in Fort Lauderdale, Jacksonville and Orange Park. The founding of the FMU Tampa campus dates back to 1890, making it the oldest business college in the state. The North Orlando campus was established in 1953 as Jones College, and in 1981 the campus became Orlando College. A branch campus of Orlando College was established in June 1995 in Melbourne. The roots of the Fort Lauderdale campus date back to 1940. The University operated under the names of Walsh School of Business, Broward College, and Drake College of Florida before changing its name to Fort Lauderdale College in 1976. In early 2000, all of the FMU campuses were renamed Florida Metropolitan University, with a campus/city designation after the name.
